The form chart held up beautifully at the North Suburban Conference wrestling tournament that was contested over the weekend at Libertyville High School.
In the team scoring, NSC Prairie Division powerhouse Grant and Lake Division leader Libertyville finished 1-2, as expected.
And in the individual competition, the 14 championships were won by 10 No. 1 seeds and four No. 2 seeds.
The tourney featured wrestlers from 14 teams, but only three of the schools — Zion-Benton, Grant and Antioch — entered a competitor in all 14 weight classes.
Mundelein had no entry in five weight classes, North Chicago in six, Lakes in six, and Lake Forest in 12.
The Scouts were represented only by Regis Durbin at 160 and Chance Shea at 170. Shea was pinned by eventual champ Tony Cashmore of Grant in the early going, but strung together four wins in the consolation bracket and earned a third-place medal.
“I thought we gave Grant a run for their money. They are a good team and we fought them the whole day,” said Libertyville coach Dale Eggert. “It wasn’t a good Friday night (preliminary-round bouts) but it was an excellent Saturday.”
The area’s only unbeaten wrestlers remains Mundelein senior Matt Ornoff, who is 32-0 at 138 pounds.
Vernon Hills heavyweight Jeremy Brazil is 35-1 and he’ll be competing in the Class 2A state-tourney series. His loss this year was to a Class 3A standout.
Regional competition is this coming weekend.
