Girls Basketball: Vernon Hills improves to 10-0 in NSC Prairie

Vernon Hills improved its NSC Prairie record to 10-0 on Friday night by downing visiting Grant 66-48.
With the Senior Night win, the Cougars clinched at least a tie for the league title.
Both Antioch and Lakes have two league losses. VH was in a spot to seal the deal on Tuesday, when it traveled to Antioch.
Both Lauren Webb and Meri Bennett-Swanson tallied 21 points against Grant. Webb also had eight rebounds.
Alina Lehocky had five points and seven rebounds.
Abby Springer and Julie Pecht — the team’s two seniors — were recognized.
In other action this week, Vernon Hills topped Wauconda 52-20 on Thursday and Deerfield 56-21 on Wednesday.
With the three wins, Vernon Hills improved to 19-3 overall.
Deerfield had no answer for Bennett-Swanson.
The Vernon Hills junior tossed in 19 points to go along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Lehocky, who was making her first start of the season, also had a big evening: 12 points, 12 rebounds.
Sydney Smith helped the VH cause with 11 points and four blocks.
Webb (8 points, 8 rebounds) and Springer (6 assists) were the other stat leaders.
In the victory over Wauconda, Bennett-Swanson (14 points), Smith (12 points, 6 rebounds), Webb (9 points, 3 assists) and Lehocky (5 points, 10 rebounds) paced the Cougars.
VH’s final league game will be on Saturday at Lakes (2:30 p.m.).
