Baritone DaRell Haynes earned top honors and the title of winner of the 2012 Opera Idol at the North Shore Competition.
Haynes is a graduate of The Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where he earned his master’s of music in vocal performance. His acclaimed first appearance was as Figaro in Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” with Candid Concert Opera, where he will soon return in Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” as the Count.
Once considered a Chicago-only singing competition, Opera Idol at the North Shore is now attracting a higher level of talented performers from further afield.
Haynes receives a full scholarship with airfare to attend the nationally recognized two-week workshop directed by baritone Sherrill Milnes and the non-profit V.O.I.C.Experience in Orlando, Fla.
