VERNON HILLS — Baxter Credit Union is upgrading its presence on the busy Milwaukee Avenue corridor.

With more than 33,000 members in Lake County, the credit union has announced plans to continue expanding.

Michael G. Valentine, the credit union’s president and CEO, said its Milwaukee Avenue building provides great exposure along the busy Milwaukee Avenue, but he added that a digital sign could capture even more interest.

The Vernon Hills facility was previously located at Lakeview Parkway and Bunker Court. It moved to a 1,000-square-foot building on Milwaukee Avenue four years ago.

Vernon Hills officials initially expressed concerns about the content of the digital sign, but trustees unanimously approved the proposal under one condition: non-credit union advertising is prohibited.

Valentine told trustees that the 9-foot sign will predominantly display time, temperature and the credit union’s tag line, with occasional rates or promotions.

No time line has been set for the sign replacement.
