Vernon Hills police blotter for Jan. 31, 2013

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Vernon Hills Police Department. Readers are reminded that an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination.
DUI
Kenneth T. Siegel, 49, of 2020 Lincoln Park West, Chicago, was charged Jan. 20 with driving under the influence. He also was cited for illegal lane use and failing to signal.
DRUGS
Matthew S. Piazza, 27, of 1507 Frank Ave., Deerfield, was charged Jan. 18 with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was cited for illegal lane use, failing to signal and driving without a valid driver’s license. He is scheduled in court Feb. 14.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A 15-year-old male was charged Jan. 17 with criminal damage to property after allegedly breaking a cell phone. He is scheduled in court Feb. 14.
THEFT
Carlos Cruz, 43, of 427 N. County St., Waukegan, was charged Jan. 18 with retail theft after allegedly taking merchandise from Macy’s, 1 Hawthorn Center, without paying. According to police, Cruz was on duty as an employee at the store. Cruz also had an outstanding warrant issued for failure to appear in Lake County Court regarding a separate matter. He is scheduled in court Feb. 6.
Edwin Juarez, 32, of 3055 George St., Waukegan, was charged Jan. 18 with retail theft after allegedly taking merchandise from Macy’s, 1 Hawthorn Center, without paying. According to police, Juarez was on duty as an employee of the store. He is scheduled in court Feb. 6.
A 17-year-old male was charged Jan. 18 with retail theft after allegedly leaving Macy’s, 1 Hawthorn Center, without paying for $357.48 worth of clothing.
