Drivers can view commute on tollway cameras

Updated: January 8, 2013 11:04AM

Drivers can now see what their commute will be like before they leave their driveway. The Illinois Tollway will add feeds from 15 traffic cameras to its website so drivers can get a “bird’s eye” view of the tollways.

Drivers can now see traffic along the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90), Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294), Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355) and Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) at www.illinoistollway.com, according to the Illinois Tollway.

“Customers are now able to go online anytime and see for themselves what the travel conditions are like on their way to their destinations,” Illinois Tollway executive director Kristi Lafleur said in a statement. “Our goal in posting these images online is to give our customers another valuable source of information to help them manage their travel decisions.”

Most cameras offer multiple views of the roads and images are uploaded about every five minutes, according to the Tollway. Image quality is dependent on weather conditions.
