CHICAGO – A motorcyclist from Vernon Hills was killed in a collision in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood Wednesday morning.

The biker – identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 27-year-old Alex Bilk – was driving west on Belmont Avenue when the motorcycle collided with an eastbound passenger car trying to make a left turn onto Kedzie Avenue about 9 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike, O’Brien said. Bilk, of the 600 block of Portage Court in Vernon Hills, was pronounced dead at 9:28 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, the medical examiner’s office said.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for failing to yield the right of way, but police declined to release the driver’s name as the police Major Accident Investigation Unit continues its investigation.
