Auditions set for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at Improv
An audition call for fourth-through-ninth graders for the Broadway musical classic “Beauty and the Beast,” an Improv Playhouse Libertyville Showstoppers production, will be held on Aug. 23 from 4-8 p.m. at the Improv Playhouse Theater, 735 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Libertyville. Shows will be held in December.
Featuring songs from the Academy-Award winning animated feature, the stage version includes music by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice.

District 73 to host meeting for parents
Parents of students who are new to Hawthorn District 73 in Vernon Hills, including new incoming kindergarten students, are encouraged to attend New Parent Information Night or Middle School Orientation at their student’s school.
For elementary school families, these parent-only meetings will be held on Aug. 21 at Elementary South, Townline and the School of Dual Language. Elementary North and Aspen will hold their New Parent Meetings on Aug. 22. All elementary meetings will be held at 7 p.m. Middle school families who are new to the district are encouraged to attend New Student Orientation with their middle school student on Aug. 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. For more information, parents should contact their school.
Condell marks 20 years of day center
Advocate Condell Medical Center recently celebrated the 20-year anniversary of its Intergenerational Day Center, which has served more than 2,000 children, seniors and their families since opening in 1992.
The day was marked by a “circus celebration” for the children, older adults, and employees of the center. Ann Dorwin, a parent of the center as well as a former circus performer, volunteered her time and talents for this special occasion. She provided a juggling exercise for the children and joyous entertainment for all those involved.
The day center, which was built in 1992 with the purpose of providing a cross-generational care system, was the first intergenerational care center in the Midwest. The day center was a winner of the Governor’s Award for Unique Achievement in 1994 when it became the first care center in Illinois to provide daily interaction between children and adults.
Advocate Condell’s Day Center was established on the foundation of intergenerational programming. This includes shared and separate activities between adults and children in the center, providing everyday interactions between multiple generations.
