Major reconstruction could come to US Route 45 in a few years, and the Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing next week to discuss it with residents.
“The scope of work involves reconstructing US Route 45 to provide additional lanes, separated by a median,” reads a press release from Lincolnshire Village Hall.
A public hearing will take place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at The Sullivan Center, 635 N. Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills. Lincolnshire authorities announced the meeting, but will play no official role in the project, which will be managed by IDOT.
IDOT’s website reports the agency has the money needed to draw up and approve a plan by this summer. The plan’s current draft calls for acquisitions of rights-of-way and both permanent and temporary easements, which the state has “partial” funding for.
Whatever will be built is likely years off, though. IDOT said it has no funding, through 2017, for the project’s construction.
The project, as currently envisioned, will begin on Milwaukee Avenue just south of Illinois Route 22. Route 45 extends north on Milwaukee to Olde Half Day Road, where it branches off of Milwaukee and extends northwest. The project will conclude when the route reaches Mundelein.
