DAR to present student awards Feb. 12
The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a special Student Awards meeting at 2 p.m. on Feb. 12 at the Libertyville Township Office, 359 Merrill Ct., Libertyville.
The chapter annually honors local students who were selected to receive the DAR American History Essay Award and the DAR Good Citizens Award. The public is encouraged to attend to honor these special young people.
Vernon Hills girls on state champs
The First Lego League (FLL) State Tournament was held on Jan. 20, and a team of 9-11-year-old girls calling themselves the “Moovers” were crowned Illinois State Champions. The girls are from Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Kildeer and Vernon Hills, and all of them are sixth graders at Woodlawn Middle School in Long Grove.
The team got its initial start in 2009 from a grant that Motorola Solutions Foundation gave the Girl Scouts tostart ten FLL teams.
FLL is a global robotics program whose mission is to encourage enthusiasm for discovery, science and technology in kids ages 9 to 14 years in the U.S. and Canada.
Persin named first vice president
Jeffrey Persin of Libertyville was named first vice president, commercial banking at MB Financial Bank. He is located in Vernon Hills at 1620 North Milwaukee Ave.
Persin brings nearly 25 years of financial services experience to MB. Before joining the organization, he was senior vice president, commercial banking at Northbrook Bank and Trust Company, a bank of Wintrust Financial Corporation. Prior to that, Persin was vice president at Harris Bank. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.
Grand Dominion supports troops
Grand Dominion by Del Webb, an active adult community for those ages 55 and older, will hold a Donation Drive for the U.S. service men and women who are serving our country. The drive will be held on Feb. 18 from 2-4 p.m. at the Lodge, the community’s amenity center, 3561 Melody St., Mundelein. Since January, they have been collecting monetary gifts and donations for military care packages and invite the community to help out.
