Vernon Hills Winter Fest draws 200 in second year

Roughly 200 people bundled up for the second Winter Fest on Saturday, Jan. 18, at Century Park North in Vernon Hills — an event organizers say is slated to become an annual tradition.

The fest was created to showcase the expansion of facilities at the park, including a new pavilion added last year and an ice rink added four years ago. The site will expand again this spring, when the park district adds a community garden.

“Overall, it was a great family event,” Recreation Supervisor Marty Walsh said. “And though this is still a relatively-new park, we believe it will become a nice hub of activity.

Here’s a look at the ice-sculpting show, a dog sled demonstration, ice skating and sledding that brought residents out to Winter Fest this year.
