Vernon Hills motorcyclist dies in Chicago

CHICAGO — A Vernon Hills motorcyclist was killed in a collision in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood Wednesday.

Alex Bilk, 27, of 644 Portage Court, was pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center at 9:28 a.m., following the crash at Belmont and Kedzie avenues, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Bilk was driving west on Belmont Avenue when the motorcycle collided with an eastbound passenger car trying to make a left turn onto Kedzie Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said. He was thrown from the motorcycle, O’Brien said.

The driver of the vehicle, Abel Ramirez, 32, of Chicago, was charged with failing to yield the right of way, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. Greer added that officials at the police department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit continue to collect details of the crash.
